Malawi's 51-year-old Vice President Saulos Chilima died in a plane crash en route to Mzuzu International Airport, along with 9 other passengers, when the aircraft went down near the Chikangawa Forest in the north. President Lazarus Chakwera confirmed the tragedy and expressed deep sorrow, praising Chilima as a good man, loyal father, husband, and patriotic citizen. The national mourning period is set for 3 weeks, with the UN Secretary-General also offering condolences to the families and people of Malawi.
