Malawi's Vice President Saulos Chilima went missing after taking a military plane on Monday after takeoff; the President's office stated that the plane disappeared from radar after departing Lilongwe, and an emergency rescue operation has been initiated. Chilima was en route to attend the funeral of former Justice Minister Ralph Kasambara, but the aircraft vanished, prompting a search operation. President Chakwera ordered the search and canceled his planned trip to the Bahamas that afternoon.
