Man Continuously Gives Gifts and Red Envelopes to Neighbor, Fined for Disturbing Peace

Reported 7 months ago

A man in Taipei repeatedly gave gifts and red envelopes to a neighbor, even going as far as worshipping at the neighbor's doorstep despite clear refusals. The neighbor eventually reported him to the police for disturbance, leading to a fine of 8,000 NTD under the 'Social Order Maintenance Act.' The man, citing long-term solitary living and mental conditions, tried to appeal the fine but was rejected by the court. While he insisted the gifts were for the neighbor's child and the worshipping was for peace, the judge maintained that regardless of intent, the law applies to uphold public order.
