According to multiple mainland media reports on July 4, 2024, a man in Hefei, Anhui Province, China, climbed over an elevator handrail in a department store and fell to his death, later pronounced dead in the hospital. Police investigation has ruled out criminal cases, speculating that the incident was either accidental or due to suicide. The mall's front desk suffered multiple collapses, with surveillance footage showing the man falling from the escalator around 5:49 pm on the same day.
