Man Faces Consequences for Verbally Abusing Convenience Store Employees Over Seat Occupancy

Reported 10 months ago

A man surnamed Wang in New Taipei City was sentenced to 20 days of detention for publicly insulting a convenience store manager and staff on two occasions in May and August 2023 after being advised against occupying seats inside the store. Wang called the manager 'stupid' and made derogatory remarks, claiming later he was drunk. Despite Wang's denial and lack of reconciliation or apology to the employees, the Taipei District Court found his actions unacceptable, causing mental distress, and deemed them beyond what is tolerable by society, leading to the conviction of two counts of public insult. Wang can appeal the judgment.
