Man's Cause of Death Reversed by Kaohsiung Health Bureau: Confirmed to be Amoebic Dysentery and Not Fowleri Meningoencephalitis

Reported 8 months ago

A man who sought medical treatment at Kaohsiung Chang Gung Hospital was diagnosed with 'Naegleria fowleri' amoeba, commonly known as 'brain-eating amoeba', which caused encephalitis leading to his death. However, the Kaohsiung City Health Bureau clarified that the slice results indicated 'amoebic dysentery'. The man, originally from another county, was initially treated due to abdominal discomfort and skin ulcers. Despite being confirmed as an amoebic dysentery case, there was no direct evidence of 'Naegleria fowleri' in his brain tissue. The Health Bureau reminded the public to maintain personal hygiene and proper sanitation practices to prevent amoebic dysentery infections.
