In the Shilin District Court of Taiwan on June 7, 2024, a 23-year-old man, after breaking up with a 25-year-old woman, got into a conflict with her 45-year-old new partner, resulting in him stabbing the man to death during a struggle. The man was charged with murder, claimed self-defense, but was sentenced to life imprisonment by the court for lacking sincere remorse. The court found that the man's use of a sharp metal folding knife to kill the other man was premeditated and not an act of defense, as he claimed, due to their prior enmity. The man's attempt to apologize to the victim's family at the last minute was deemed insincere, leading to a severe sentence.
