James Howells, a software engineer from Wales, is suing Newport City Council for approximately $647 million after accidentally discarding a hard drive containing 8,000 Bitcoins worth over half a billion dollars in 2013. The lawsuit aims to compel the council to excavate the landfill where the hard drive was thrown away, with Howell's team offering to conduct the recovery at no cost and share 10% of the recovered Bitcoins' value. The council has dismissed the lawsuit, citing environmental concerns.
