Man with Electric Suitcase as Aid! Neurologist Visiting High-End Department Store Driven Away by Security Guard, Business Claims: Not Permitted

Reported 12 months ago

On July 2, 2024, neurologist Dr. Song Si-Quan, a spinal cord injury patient, and his wife were shopping at a Taipei high-end department store, where he was riding the latest technology aid, an electric suitcase, due to mobility issues. However, he was stopped and driven away by security guards, feeling disrespected. The media director of BELLAVITA Square later informed Dr. Song that electric suitcases are not currently recognized as legal aids and are not allowed for riding inside the store, offering free wheelchair rentals instead. The business asserted that there were no signs setting such regulations inside the store and that this was the first time a customer had ridden an electric suitcase in, promising to enhance staff education on the matter.
