Mayor Cheng Wen-Tsan Released on NT$5 Million Bail! Leaves in Silence with a Smile

Reported about 1 year ago

On July 6, 2024, at 2:47 am, Mayor Cheng Wen-Tsan, Chairman of the Straits Exchange Foundation, was suspected to be involved in a land development corruption case and charged with bribery. After being brought in for questioning by prosecutors yesterday and facing a request for detention, a bail hearing was held earlier today, ultimately resulting in a decision by the judge for Mayor Cheng to post a NT$5 million bail and be placed under house arrest with travel restrictions. Following the ruling, Mayor Cheng's lawyer promptly paid the bail in cash, and Mayor Cheng emerged from the Taoyuan District Court at around 2:35 pm wearing a smile, declining to comment when asked if he felt wronged or falsely accused. His lawyer stated that the judge advised against making statements. Mayor Cheng then left in a car. Mayor Cheng appeared in public with a smile after posting bail. Photo/Courtesy of TTV News
