Former Taoyuan mayor and current chair of the Mainland Affairs Council Cheng Wen-Tsan left the district court with a smile after posting bail in relation to a land development corruption case. Cheng was accused of violating the Anti-Corruption Act and was initially held in custody by the Taoyuan District Prosecutors' Office, but the court ultimately decided to grant bail of 5 million NT dollars with restrictions. The case involves a 9.5-hectare agricultural land redevelopment project near the Huaya Science Park in Taoyuan, with accusations of bribery involving Cheng and another individual who has been detained. The prosecutors expressed dissatisfaction with the court's decision and appealed on the spot. Cheng's lawyer brought the cash bail to the court in the afternoon for processing, and Cheng left the court without speaking to the media after presenting a smile.
