In the morning of July 9, 2024, the Detention Court ruled to release Mayor Cheng Wen-tsang from custody. Involved in a land development corruption case, he is accused of accepting a bribe of 5 million NT dollars during his tenure as Taoyuan mayor. The judge granted bail of 5 million NT dollars on the 6th, which was successfully appealed by the prosecution. The Taoyuan District Court ruled for a bail of 12 million NT dollars on the afternoon of the 9th, with the prosecution filing a counter-appeal on the spot. The Prosecutor's Office in Taoyuan stated that they would send the appeal to the court as the fastest case today, and the court would then forward it to the High Court.
