According to a report by Financial Times cited by Reuters, some Chinese companies are in contact with Malaysian government officials to potentially move their production operations to the country in order to evade high tariffs imposed by the US. The industries involved include battery manufacturing, medical equipment, and semiconductors. These companies are lobbying Malaysian ministers to oppose US tariffs on products manufactured or assembled by Chinese companies in Malaysia. With the US increasing tariffs to reduce trade with China, imports from countries like Vietnam in Southeast Asia have surged, leading to Chinese investments being redirected to these nations to avoid tariffs.
