Reported 12 months ago

The Legislative Yuan's Education and Culture Committee invited Minister of Culture Li Yuan to report on the transitioning issue of Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall, where the problem of the honor guards being relocated has not been determined. Li Yuan emphasized the importance of not causing conflict or division from the government's perspective, stating that 'old history needs to turn the page but should not be forgotten'. The Ministry of Culture plans to hold an exhibition showcasing young Taiwanese people's vision for addressing authoritarian issues and enhance the leisure environment of the memorial hall. Different opinions on removing the honor guards have been raised, with Minister of National Defense Chiu Kuo-cheng suggesting moving them to Liberty Square. Minister Li mentioned that to handle historical transition, the removal of authoritarian symbols should be treated carefully to reconcile with the past and face history.
