A recent incident in Kyoto involved two foreign tourists mistakenly boarding a bus bound for the terminal station but were not allowed to alight by the driver due to a language barrier. The tourists eventually called the police after 20 minutes of driving, and the bus only stopped 4 kilometers away from the starting point to let them off. The driver, associated with the West Japan JR Bus Company under Kyoto City Government, claimed he misunderstood the tourists' language and intended to reach the terminal station for assistance. Apologies were issued by the bus company and Kyoto Traffic Bureau, promising measures to prevent similar situations from happening again.
