During a lifting operation at Yonghe Temple in Luodong, Yilan, on June 27, 2024, a high-tension nylon strap snapped while being adjusted, causing the Guanyin statue to fall and break into two pieces. Although advised to switch to a metal chain beforehand, the contractor did not heed the suggestion, resulting in the accident. The temple has since reordered a replacement, and compensation will be covered by the insurance and the crane company responsible.
