MLB player Tucupita Marcano banned for life over baseball betting allegations

Reported 4 months ago

San Diego Padres infielder Tucupita Marcano has been permanently banned from Major League Baseball for allegedly betting on baseball games, with four other players receiving one-year suspensions for placing unrelated bets with a legal sportsbook. Marcano is the first active major leaguer banned for gambling since 1924, with the league emphasizing the importance of upholding the integrity of the sport. The players punished denied having inside information relevant to their bets, and Marcano was found to have placed over $150,000 in bets, including on Pittsburgh Pirates games while he was on the team's roster, resulting in a lifetime ban under MLB Rule 21.
