MLB has officially integrated the statistics of the Negro Leagues into its record books, recognizing the league as a Major League and considering the records equal. The decision, made in 2020, involved a committee of historians and researchers led by the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum president, Bob Kendrick. This move allows over 2,300 NLB players to be included in the leaderboards, revealing the talent and accomplishments of players like Josh Gibson and Toni Stone. The integration is seen as a positive step towards acknowledging and honoring the legacy of Black athletes who were previously marginalized by MLB, especially during a time when diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives are under scrutiny in various sectors.
