Mohammad Rasoulof is going to attend the Cannes Film Festival after leaving Iran.

Reported 5 months ago

Mohammad Rasoulof, an Iranian filmmaker, will be attending the Cannes premiere of his latest film "The Seed of the Sacred Fig" after fleeing Iran to avoid an eight-year prison sentence imposed on him supposedly for subversive activity against the government. Rasoulof's work has faced government bans in Iran, and he has been previously sentenced to prison and a filmmaking ban for alleged anti-government propaganda. His latest film, which was filmed in secret, will be screened at Cannes despite the challenges he has faced. The Directors Guild of America has expressed support for Rasoulof in his fight for freedom of expression.
