An extreme weather phenomenon known as the dzud has killed over 7.1 million animals in Mongolia this year, more than a tenth of the country's entire livestock, affecting herders' livelihoods and Mongolia's economy. Dzuds, a combination of droughts and snowy winters, are becoming more severe and frequent due to climate change, with the recent dzud being the worst in a decade. The disaster has forced many herders to sell their animals, leading to significant economic challenges and urgent need for international aid.
