Xu Haoming, a student from the Republic of China Air Force Academy in the U.S., had his mother and grandmother attend his graduation ceremony in the U.S. However, they were involved in a serious car accident on the way, with his mother's condition stabilizing after treatment in the U.S. and she returning to Taiwan for further medical care, while his grandmother remains in the U.S. The incident prompted an outpouring of donations from the public to help with the substantial medical expenses, as Xu, despite excelling in academics and winning a scholarship, comes from a modest background. He chose to stay in the U.S. to care for his grandmother until her condition stabilizes before returning to Taiwan together.
