National Highway Bus Fare to Increase for the First Time in Nearly 18 Years, Effective as Early as November

Reported about 1 year ago

As reported by TTV News on July 6, 2024, the basic fare of national highway buses has remained unchanged for almost 18 years, with a slight increase confirmed in May. Currently, 11 bus companies have submitted fare adjustment applications, expected to be implemented as early as November. The approved maximum fare increase for four-row seating buses is 1.56%, while for three-row seating buses, it is 6.46%. After the fare adjustment, short-distance routes will be subsidized under the TPASS policy, while non-TPASS routes will be partially subsidized by the government, with only one-third of the increase passed on to passengers, resulting in a lighter impact. Bus operators such as Capital Bus have applied for a two-thirds fare increase subsidy adjustment, likely to reflect in ticket prices as early as November, affecting routes like Taipei to Keelung with an increase of around 1 to 2 yuan, without impacting TPASS users.
