A navy seaman surnamed Lin from the Navy's Maritime Tactical Search and Detection Unit was disciplined for borrowing money and enticing his comrades into online gambling, receiving two demerits. Despite initially denying the claims and filing a lawsuit, Lin was found guilty of illegal gambling and even got physically assaulted when unable to repay his debts. His father, expressing regret that Lin never really won, ended up paying off his debts. Lin's appeals were rejected, and the court confirmed his loss. The judgment revealed that Lin, a former radio telegraphy sergeant at the Instructional Brigade, engaged in illegal online gambling in 2021, despite his defense that he was only analyzing sports events for betting purposes. His comrades, including sergeants Zhang and Xu, accused Lin of illegal gambling, leading to his downfall.
