The new version of Japanese banknotes is set to be officially released on July 3, replacing the current ones. The new banknotes incorporate advanced anti-counterfeiting technology, leading to higher production costs compared to the existing ones. Additionally, rising raw material prices contribute to the increasing costs. The Bank of Japan pays for the production of banknotes manufactured by the National Printing Bureau. The estimated increase in production costs per banknote is around 13%, with new banknotes costing 20.4 yen and current banknotes costing 18.1 yen to produce.
