New Taipei Man Sets off Firecrackers in the Middle of the Night, Clashes with Police, Escapes, and Arrogantly Livestreams the Event

In the early hours of June 12, 2024, a 24-year-old man surnamed Zhong, accompanied by two minors, was setting off firecrackers in a park near Xinshe Elementary School in Hsinchu County. When approached by the police, Zhong refused to cooperate, reversed his car and hit the police car before fleeing. A chase ensued, ending with a collision and the man's apprehension. During the chase, Zhong even livestreamed the event via video call to friends. He later claimed that he thought one of the passengers was a wanted criminal, resulting in his attempt to escape. The incident led to charges of obstructing official duties and violation of public order, with one of the passengers previously having a record of assault.
