On June 11, 2024, the New Taiwan dollar depreciated by 1.6 cents against the US dollar, reaching 32.411, despite Taiwan's stock market surpassing 22,000 points. The depreciation was attributed to strong US economic data, with May's non-farm payroll exceeding expectations at 272,000, indicating robust growth and resulting in a stronger US dollar. As the US dollar index remained above 105, other Asian currencies also depreciated, including the Japanese yen and the South Korean won.
