New U.K. Banknotes Featuring King Charles III in Circulation

Reported 4 months ago

The Bank of England has started issuing new banknotes featuring the portrait of King Charles III in denominations of £5, £10, £20, and £50, with no other design changes. The new notes will coexist with those featuring Queen Elizabeth II. Despite the rise in cashless transactions, the release accommodates lower income households and welfare recipients. The rollout aligns with environmental and financial goals and marks the first change of the sovereign on U.K. banknotes, with over 4.6 billion notes in circulation, valued at around £82 billion. King Charles III praised the design and became the second monarch to be featured on British banknotes, following Queen Elizabeth II in 1960.
