In rural areas of New Zealand, the wild cat population has become a serious problem, leading to a local initiative called 'Hunt the Feral Cats.' Despite opposition from animal rights groups, over 1500 participants, including kids, joined the event, where around 400 wild cats were killed, with one participant bagging 65 cats and earning a prize of about 16,000 TWD. The competition aims to reduce the threat of wild cats on the local ecosystem, where these cats were brought by European explorers in the 1700s and have since posed a danger by preying on local wildlife. The government plans to eradicate wild cats by 2050, and hunting competitions have emerged in response.
