Taichung's Renai Hospital was found negligent in handling a birth, leading to the newborn's death upon delivery. The court ruled that the obstetrician and the hospital must compensate the parents with 14.04 million NTD. Although the doctor faced no criminal charges, the civil court concluded there was medical negligence, holding the obstetrician and the hospital jointly liable for the compensation. The parents alleged that a series of errors during delivery, including failure to notice fetal distress and improper vacuum extraction, resulted in their baby's tragic death.
