Nighttime Light Exposure Linked to Increased Risk of Type 2 Diabetes, Study Confirms

Reported 9 months ago

A new study confirms that exposure to bright light at night can disrupt the body's internal clock and increase the risk of developing type 2 diabetes. Researchers from Flinders University in Australia collected data from about 85,000 people and 13 million hours of light sensor data. The study found that exposure to bright light at night, particularly between 12:30 AM and 6:00 AM, is associated with a higher risk of developing type 2 diabetes, as it disrupts the body's internal clock and affects insulin secretion and glucose metabolism. Maintaining darkness at night may be a simple and cost-effective way to prevent or delay the onset of diabetes.
