North Bu Old Street Fire Incident

Reported 11 months ago

A peculiar fire incident occurred at the well-known attraction, North Bu Old Street in Hsinchu County, where a shop's cooking equipment accidentally caught fire. Despite attempts to extinguish using newspapers and well water, the fire only grew more intense. Onlookers tried to help with pot lids, but were disregarded by the shop owner who caused the fire to flare up each time, even after being advised not to use water on an oil fire. Eventually, a man used a large iron pot to smother the fire, but it was futile as the shop owner kept uncovering it. The chaotic scene was attributed to a mishandling of a gas canister, causing a gas leak and irrepressible flames. The local fire department advises proper procedures in combating fires and warns against using water on oil fires.
