On June 29, 2024, the UK conflict armament research organization, CAR, reported to the UN Security Council that there is evidence that Russia used ballistic missile components, originating from North Korea, in its attacks on Ukraine. The US, UK, and France accused Russia of violating the UN arms embargo against North Korea. However, both Russia and North Korea denied these claims. The US urged China to use its influence to restrain North Korea and Russia to maintain regional stability and security, while China criticized the US for evading responsibility. The situation escalated further as Russia and North Korea signed an agreement to provide military assistance to each other in the event of external military aggression, leading the US, France, UK, Japan, and South Korea to hold a meeting to discuss the potential international crisis that this agreement could provoke. Talks between the two camps have not reached a consensus, and the issues of Russia and North Korea violating arms embargoes remain unresolved.
