Tensions rise at the North-South Korean border as North Korean soldiers crossed the Military Demarcation Line twice in June on the 9th and 18th, prompting the South Korean military to use broadcasts and fire warning shots to drive them away. Another incident occurred on June 20th when a North Korean soldier crossed the MDL and was again driven off by South Korean forces. The North Korean soldiers have recently been making multiple incursions near the border, intensifying the situation. The South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff assessed that these incidents were likely accidental crossings as the demarcation line is not clearly marked in overgrown areas where the North Korean army has been conducting various operations like laying landmines and enhancing alertness.
