Nutritionists remind the public to finish eating zongzi within a week. As Dragon Boat Festival approaches, zongzi has become a cultural tradition. However, due to their large size, many people can't finish them after the festival and end up storing them in the fridge for too long. The Food and Drug Administration points out that the warm and humid climate during the festival is conducive to the growth of various microorganisms and pathogens. Whether homemade or purchased, zongzi should be promptly stored in the freezer (-18°C or below) to slow down microbial growth rate and extend shelf life. It is recommended to consume them sooner to preserve their original flavor and avoid potential risks of storing them in the freezer for too long.
