An off-duty police officer in Taitung collided with a low-flying protected bird, a crested serpent eagle, while riding his motorcycle, causing him to lose control and crash. The officer slid into the opposite lane and hit a tree before falling down a one-meter embankment, sustaining life-threatening injuries. Despite the area being known for crested serpent eagle sightings, experts note that the probability of such accidents is low due to the bird's typical flight height. The officer, currently hospitalized, was reported to be in critical condition. Witnesses recalled the horrifying scene as the officer lost control after the bird collision and crashed. Authorities remind drivers to be cautious of wildlife to avoid similar accidents.
