In Japan, an outbreak of 'flesh-eating bacteria' has occurred with 977 local cases as of early June, increasing 2.8 times from the previous year and marking the highest number since 1991. Additionally, cases of hand, foot, and mouth disease have emerged, along with the presence of the European M1UK strain. The diseases, caused by A-type streptococcus bacteria, pose severe risks with high fatality rates. Amid these outbreaks, cases of the M1UK variant have surfaced in Japan, while the correlation between these different strains is under investigation.
