Over 10,000 People Gather for 'Blue Bird Action' in the Evening, Miau Yu-Jie: Taiwanese People Will Support the Chief Justice

Reported about 1 year ago

On the morning of June 21, 2024, Members of Parliament failed to pass the revision of the legislative powers veto bill. Despite this, outside groups held an evening event, with about 10,000 people attending. Social Democratic Party Taipei City Councilor Miau Yu-Jie stated that the purpose of the gathering was to show the Chief Justice that Taiwanese people have differing opinions and do not accept the hasty and rough deliberations in parliament. Miau expressed concerns about the parliamentary majority parties' intentions in pushing through bills to change the democratic system, potentially leading to parliament having excessive power. There are worries about the quality of parliament members taking on roles such as supervisory positions and judges if this trend continues. Miau emphasized that if the Chief Justice confirms the unconstitutional nature of the amendments made, then these parliament members should face consequences.
