Owner Commits Suicide as Neihu Pet Store Unable to Operate; Taipei City Hall: Consent Required from Building Owners to Open Pet Businesses in Residential Areas

On the morning of June 27, 2024, a tragic suicide case occurred at a pet store in Neihu, Taipei. The 47-year-old male owner spent over 4 million NT dollars to renovate the store for pet grooming but faced difficulties in obtaining consent from the owner of the second floor residential unit, preventing the store from opening. Due to immense pressure from rent and expenses, the owner sadly took his own life. Taipei City Department of Urban Development stated that to operate pet grooming businesses in residential areas, written consent from adjacent and upper floor residential unit owners is required. The dispute between the owner and the second floor resident led to the inability to open the store, causing a tragic outcome.
