Reported about 1 year ago
On June 6th at 8:00 p.m. in Hualien, a truck driver struck and injured a 22-year-old pedestrian who ran a red light. Due to the new pedestrian clause implemented last year, where drivers must yield to pedestrians on crosswalks regardless of red light violations, the truck driver may face a hefty fine and a one-year license suspension. The pedestrian suffered minor injuries and fortunately survived, but the driver's failure to yield to a pedestrian on the crosswalk could lead to a fine ranging from 7200 to 36000 NT dollars as per regulations. The Hualien police advised drivers to provide evidence for complaints to the traffic authority to potentially repeal or uphold the penalties.
