Philippine Malvar-Class Patrol Vessel Launched with Missile Vertical Launch System

Reported 10 months ago

On June 18, the first ship of the new Malvar-class patrol vessels purchased by the Philippine Navy from South Korea, Miguel Malvar (FF 06), was launched at the Ulsan shipyard of Hyundai Heavy Industries. The vessel is part of the Philippines Navy's 'Corvette Acquisition Plan.' Constructed by Hyundai Heavy Industries based on their HDC 3100 model, the ships are expected to be delivered to the Philippine Navy in 2025. The vessels are equipped with various radar systems, missile launch systems, and other electronic support systems. With the introduction of the Malvar-class vessels in the Philippines Navy, Taiwan will be the only country in East Asia without warships equipped with a missile vertical launch system, highlighting technical challenges faced by other naval projects.
