In a report by SET News on June 20, 2024, it is advised by nurse Tan Dun-ci from Lin-Kou Chang Gung Memorial Hospital that soaking pineapple in salt water before consumption can greatly reduce the likelihood of tongue irritation caused by the pineapple enzyme. This method is particularly useful for individuals with sensitive mouths. Furthermore, pineapple, aside from aiding digestion, has been found to significantly reduce bacterial toxins and treat bacterial diarrhea due to its enzyme content, earning it the title of a natural antibiotic. It is also recommended to wash pineapples with hot water before eating to ensure food safety.
