Since July 3rd, the People's Liberation Army has conducted a three-day military mission in the waters near the eastern coast of Zhejiang, with the exercise area as close as 100 nautical miles of Taiwan's southern end, according to the latest Ministry of National Defense report dated July 5th. During the surveillance period from July 4th 6 a.m. to July 5th 6 a.m., a total of 36 PLA aircraft and 6 PLA ships were detected near Taiwan's air and sea spaces, with some entering the country's north, central, southwest, and southeast airspace. Mainland fighter jets even reached as close as 78 nautical miles to Keelung. Additionally, an air defense identification zone southwest of Taiwan appeared ineffective with multiple main and auxiliary fighter jets, helicopters, and drones flying through the area, with one auxiliary fighter jet approaching as close as 51 nautical miles to Eluanbi. The Ministry also mentioned the PLA's naval live-fire drill in the East China Sea, stating that the ROC military could instantly monitor the PLA's regional exercises and tests of new weapon systems through its joint intelligence surveillance system. While the PLA set up a no-fly zone and airspace control in the waters off Zhejiang, it is speculated to be an annual naval live-fire drill conducted by the Eastern Theater Command. The ROC military vows to closely monitor and respond appropriately to these activities.
