Pope used offensive Italian term to describe LGBT people, Italian newspapers report

Reported 4 months ago

Pope Francis reportedly used a derogatory term towards the LGBT community during a closed-door meeting with Italian bishops, where he stated that gay people should not be allowed to become priests. The Italian media reported that the Pope referred to seminaries as being too full of a vulgar Italian term, "frociaggine," meaning "faggotness." This incident, alleged to have occurred on May 20 during a meeting with the Italian Bishops Conference, has not been officially commented on by the Vatican. Despite this, Pope Francis has previously been perceived as leading the Roman Catholic Church towards a more welcoming approach to the LGBT community, but his recent comments have sparked controversy and criticism.
