Popular Japanese animation production company GAINAX, known for creating 'Neon Genesis Evangelion' and 'Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea,' filed for bankruptcy on June 7, 2024, after facing financial downfall due to various unsuccessful ventures outside of its core business, including a foray into the food industry and establishing a CG company without proper planning. Additionally, the company struggled with mismanagement, high debts, a significant number of staff departures, and a scandal involving an individual with no prior animation experience appointed as director in 2018. Despite efforts to restructure and regain stability, mounting debts led to insolvency, prompting the bankruptcy filing, disappointing many anime fans.
