On June 18, 2024, Premier Su Tseng-chang expressed the goal of implementing standardized rental contracts in July to prevent landlords from overcharging electricity fees. This initiative was previously promised by the former Minister of the Interior Lin Yu-chang, but the completion has been delayed. The issue arose due to concerns that the increase in electricity prices set by Taiwan Power Company may lead to landlords increasing rents or charging excessive electricity fees. The proposed amendments to the rental contracts aim to ensure that landlords cannot charge more than the total electricity bill amount from tenants. Despite delays, Premier Su mentioned that the process is ongoing, and there will be accelerated reviews to address the issue.
