President Lai Ching-te presided over a military graduation ceremony for the first time since taking office at the National Defense University, expressing support for defense reform and advocating against formalism. In contrast to a past event where he emphasized that both sides of the strait do not belong to each other, this time the president did not even mention the Republic of China.
