President Lai Ching-te attended the unveiling ceremony of the Pingtung County Animal Shelter and interacted with a dog named 'Ban Ban' who had a missing limb. Despite the injury, President Lai Ching-te was moved by the dog's eager and loving eyes and decided to adopt it after moving into the presidential residence. The animal shelter, a first in Taiwan combining pet care, veterinary services, grooming, behavior training, and wildlife rescue, was inaugurated by President Lai Ching-te and other officials. Lai emphasized the importance of animal welfare and Taiwan becoming an animal-friendly country to earn international respect. The shelter aims to significantly improve the welfare of sheltered animals.
