Prosecution's Appeal Successful! High Court Sends Case Back to Taoyuan District Court Tonight, Cheng Wen-tsang May Appear in Court Again Tomorrow

Reported about 1 year ago

Former Taoyuan City Mayor and former Chairman of the Mainland Affairs Council Cheng Wen-tsang was involved in a land exploitation case in Linkou Industrial Park. The Taoyuan District Prosecutors' Office applied for detention under the Anti-Corruption Act, but the Taoyuan District Court ruled to release him on bail of 5 million NT dollars. The prosecution appealed, and the Taiwan High Court promptly reviewed the case after receiving it this afternoon, overturning the ruling and sending it back to the Taoyuan court. Cheng Wen-tsang may have to appear in court again for a remand hearing tomorrow. This decision was influenced by concerns about modern communication software being used to manipulate statements until the case is thoroughly investigated. The High Court aims to prevent collusion and evidence tampering among the accused and witnesses until the circumstances are fully clarified.
