On June 16, 2024, on 'International Domestic Workers' Day,' Taiwan's Migrant Workers Alliance called for household migrant workers to be included in the long-term care system, as over 210,000 such workers have been in Taiwan since 1992. These workers, living with individual families, often face labor beyond their designated scope, with no labor rights protection. The alliance demands legal protection and swift inclusion in the government's long-term care system. However, the government seems hesitant to address labor law issues, leaving these workers feeling akin to modern-day slaves.
