Many Taiwanese citizens express discontent with the Natural Person Certificate, which costs 250 NTD and has an expiration date, questioning its utility and suggesting that online authentication should be done directly through mobile phones with dual identification instead. Complaints include frustration over the renewal process and fees paid to the government, speculating whether it benefits vendors. Users also cite the preference for using the health insurance card for authentication, describing the certificate as useless and likening it to garbage, with some pointing out specific areas where it is still necessary such as in official documents and customs declarations. The Ministry of the Interior recently expanded the service to allow citizens to apply for the certificate in person at local offices for a fee of 30 NTD.
